2 out of 5 stars. Three bachelors find a baby on their doorstep stating that one of them is the little girl's father. While trying to find out who actually fathered the child, Jack brings in Annabelle (his childhood friend and his cousin's penniless widow) to care for little Sarah. Yet as the search goes on Jack finds himself loosing his heart to both Annabelle and Sarah, will they ever learn the truth?

I read the description of this novel and was instantly hooked since I'm a big fan of the "Three Men and a Little Baby" which is the film this novel was based. However, as it progresses Jack somehow turns into a cowardly idiot and I grew bored with the rest of the plot. Basically it didn't meet my expectations as I had hoped. Yet I will say I liked seeing Annabelle & Jack together.

Overall, I don't recommend this novel but if you are still interested in it then it's for those who enjoy historical romances.

Scandal on His Doorstep A Most Peculiar Season Book 2 edition by Deborah Hale Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. This was a Very good regency romance. The two main characters are Jack who has recently become the heir of an earl due to the death of his cousin, Frederick, whom he loved as a brother. Jacks parents marriage broke up while he was young. His mother left him behind and kids and adults were malicious. Jacks best friend is Annabelle. She lost her parents in an accident as a child. She was taken in by relatives but they treated her as the hired help. Annabelle approached Jack before she accepted Fredericks offer of marriage. At the time she'd hoped Jack went off to war and upon his return went back to his Rakish ways with his two best friends who reside with him. Sarah realizes even though Frederick was in love with her she wasn't in love with him but loved him as a brother. As the three men who are housemates arrive home they find an infant on the front steps with a note telling them her name, Sarah and that the baby belonged to one of them. As males do when faced with a crying woman or infant they panic. Jack took off to Annabelles house to seek her aide in caring for the baby. Jack is determined that no child will grow up to feel unloved or unwanted so he convinces Annabelle to move in with them while they search for the mother. Jack is determined to 'do the right thing' towards both Sarah and her mother. He comes to value a bit of what mother's go through especially if they have no husband or money. Annabelle has loved Jack since childhood. He also was the one who stood up and protected from her cruel cousins. All three bachelor's start the search for the babe' s mother. There are numerous ups and down as well as romance, friendship, as well as examples of the various types of love. If you want to know more about Jack and Annabelle then read this book. It is a sweet romance. I have had the pleasure of reading a few other books by this author and they too were well written and entertaining. I look forward to reading her future books.
I read this book as part of "The Most Peculiar Season" bundle on KU. I enjoyed the story right up until about 80% when it all went to pieces and I wanted to throw my . The h had been in love with the H from when she was young but he'd rejected her and encouraged her to marry his cousin, a future Earl. The h's husband dies and she is left penniless but refuses help from the H, until a baby appears on his doorstep and he needs her help. The H and 2 of his bachelor live together and when the baby is left on their doorstep, the young men have to work out who the child belongs to, and who is the father. They were mostly all rakes of the first order. The H ropes in the h as she has experience with kids. She insists that all 3 men help with the baby. As I said it was a lovely story up to the last few chapters.

+++Spoilers+++
After the h and the H work together for a few months with the baby, they both realise their attraction for each other. They sleep together and the very next day after the H has possibly impregnated the h, the supposed baby mama arrives on the doorstep. The H offers to marry the courtesan, who he'd had a scene with for a few weeks and therefore rejects the h once more. No mention is made of the fact that he offered to marry the h first or that she could possibly be pregnant. He determines to go through with the wedding and never questions that the courtesan could be lying. The h and his 2 friends begin trying to prove that the courtesan can't be the mother. I was disgusted with how naive the H was, and how he didn't bother to check out the courtesan's story. The h arrives at the wedding in time to object to the marriage. The H has the audacity to be angry with her. I hated that he was dishonourable towards her and that she forgives him without the slightest bit of grovelling on his part. It all truly spoilt the story and left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Great story, great characters, love the series
Disappointed by the language. Will not read this author again.
An interesting read, and the author is completely unapologetic about this being a re-write of "Three Men and a Baby".

It may be a re-write but it's not blindly following, and there are plenty of interesting situations and intrigues before a satisfying ending. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.
